Hello,

I am new to iCash, and have downloaded a trial version. I have always used MS Money 2001, but since my (forced) upgrade to Vista I have had no luck in getting Money 2001 to work on it. After a lot of googling I decided to try iCash because it seems to do exactly what I want - just the features that are necessary (instead of huge feature bloat) and it works on Vista.

I have managed to import QIF files from MS Money and all seems well, but I am confused about one thing - namely subcategories.

In MS Money I had categories and subcategories - eg Type Expense, Category Car, Subcategories Petrol, Tax, Insurance.

When I imported into iCash - it seems to handle these subcategories when I look at the transaction entry screen, and also when I run some reports.

However, when I look at the list of Categories, I can only see the top-level category Car - I cannot see the various subcategories. This would imply that if I ever wanted to create more subcategories, or amend exist subcategories, I couldn't.

However, since it seems that underneath it all, iCash is in fact handling the subcategories correctly, is it possible to amend the Category interface to see these SubCategories?

Or should I go into my MSMoney and change my category structure to make it flat, ie not have any subcategories?

Your help would be very much appreciated, as I am very keen to go ahead and purchase the product, and import my data properly.

Kind regards,

Monique

In iCash we call subcategories Accounts. An account belong to a category and categories belongs to types (Incomes, Expenses...). So you MSMoney 'Type/Category/Subcategory' is in iCash 'Type/Category/Account.

Ah! Now I see - thank you very much indeed. I just had to get round that concept and suddenly it all makes sense.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,
Monique
