Hello,

I have a problem with checking valid email adresses. I get the following
error:

MX <info@microcontrol.net> -> [[Error] Impossible to extract information from MX record.]

The port 25 (smtp) is open for microcontrol.net, the DNS seems also to
be OK.

Here are the details of the DNS response:

Server: ns.tro.net
Address: 62.154.244.45

microcontrol.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.microcontrol.net
microcontrol.net nameserver = ns.b.tro.net
microcontrol.net nameserver = ns.tro.net
mail.microcontrol.net internet address = 84.44.160.130
ns.b.tro.net internet address = 62.141.56.111
ns.tro.net internet address = 62.154.244.45

Can anyboday help?

Can you paste here the DNS results as shown by eMail Verifier? It is the 'Details' panel, selecting 'DNS Server Response'.

microcontrol.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.microcontrol.net
microcontrol.net nameserver = ns.b.tro.net
microcontrol.net nameserver = ns.tro.net
mail.microcontrol.net internet address = 84.44.160.130
ns.b.tro.net internet address = 62.141.56.111

Did you replace default Windows NSLookup with something else? This response doesn't look correct to me. The proper response should be:

Non-authoritative answer: Server: Stan_Busk
Address: 192.168.1.1:53

microcontrol.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.microcontrol.net

mail.microcontrol.net internet address = 84.44.160.130

Your response lacks the 'Non-authoritative answer:' tag.

So that means you're scanning for the string "Non-authoritative answer".
But this works IMHO only when the nameserver answers out of its cache
(refer to "DNS and BIND", OReilly, pg. 382).

I am using the standard Windows NSLookup. When I change to one
of our Linux machines I get the same answer, i.e. WITHOUT the string
"Non-authoritative answer".

Is it possible to change the program, e.g. to scan for the "MX preference"
string?

Best regards,
Uwe
